Independent Student of the Day

Anna Dreslinski is a vocal performance major at Madonna University. She was homeschooled through high school, and enjoyed every moment of making her education her own. Anna has three siblings, and is confident that life wouldn't be as interesting without them as her siblings have helped her become the person she is today.

Anna is currently pursuing a career as a performer, but ultimately aims to open a youth theater company in the metro Detroit area. She views music and performance as a tool for people to use to create a solid network, and also for kids to use in pursuing higher education. Anna hopes to perform for about 5 more years, and then put all efforts into creating an affordable, and economically reviving theater company.

My motivation

My love for people is what motivates me the most, I believe. I have been so blessed by the goodness and love of others, it motivates me to work harder, but also has inspired me to look for ways to contribute in other people's lives as well. School has given me skills that are valuable to other people, and my ability to share those things with others can bless them and let them know they are loved and supported. Knowing that the more I learn, the more I can contribute, motivates me each day!

My latest accomplishments

I just recently finished filming my first lead role in a full length feature film, and really enjoyed the experience. It was filmed by the Madonna University Capstone Class of 2014, and will be running its course through the film festivals this upcoming year. It was my first time ever on film, so it was a huge learning experience, about my talents and my personality. Overall I enjoyed the experience so much, I have decided to actually start looking into more film opportunities!

Next big goal

Pursue a stage career, graduate, and...get married! Graduation is only two years away, and I can hardly believe I'm almost done! I am continuing to push to graduate with the highest honors, so wish me luck in these last few semesters left. Finally, I am recently engaged! Super excited to be marrying my best friend and my biggest supporter.  He is prepared to help me pursue performing and hopefully teaching performance to students in the near future, and I can't wait to see what God has in store!

Why is choosing your own path important?

Choosing your own path defines who you are in a lot of areas of your life. Going through the motions, or only accommodating the wishes of someone else will only result in never having anything to call your own. Make life your own, and make your decisions your own. Go with your gut and define your character. People will look up to you, and you will have the opportunity to inspire others and be inspired by people who you surround yourself with.

Education relates in perfect harmony to this, as in school you have to really give the material and your professors a real interest. By making your education a passion and an honest interest, you have more options to choose how you define your future and create your own unique contribution to the world. Be you, because you can't be anyone else. Forge your own way, because there is only one you, and we need everything you have to contribute to the world!
