Independent Student of the Day

Anna Eby is a senior at Hillsdale College majoring in financial management and music. She chose Hillsdale for "the character of the people", she says, "and because I knew I would be challenged academically as Hillsdale attracts people of integrity". She truly appreciates being surrounded by professors and students "who genuinely care about each other".

Anna stays active on campus as the Editor in Chief of the Hillsdale College Winona Yearbook and member of the Phi Kappa Phi National Honors Society. She is also a trumpet player in the Hillsdale Wind Symphony and cornet player in the Capital City Brass Band.

In the summer of 2016, Anna completed an internship with the Library, Archives, and Information Services Department of the C.S. Mott Foundation, a large private philanthropy based in Flint, Michigan. In the summer of 2017, she interned with the same foundation in their Investments Office.

My latest accomplishments

In September, the yearbook team released our latest yearbook, and it was a smashing success. Hillsdale's yearbook has been unpopular among the student body for many years, and my goal as Editor in Chief was to reverse negative perceptions of the publication. The comments we received about the new book were overwhelmingly positive.

Next big goal

As I look forward to my graduation this month with a Bachelor of Arts degree in financial management, my next big goal is to find a career that interests and challenges me.

Why is choosing your own path important?

When I visited Hillsdale College, I knew that it was a good fit for me because it offered challenging academics with a liberal arts core. But more importantly, the people at Hillsdale are honest and committed to learning. Being constantly surrounded by these people has been an immense blessing and helped me grow as a person enabling me to choose my own path.

Favorite place on campus

My favorite place on campus is Howard Music Hall. I spend a lot of my spare time in rehearsals or practicing trumpet, and when I'm there I always run into a friend or a professor and we stop to chat. It's really delightful!
