Independent Alum of the Day
Mara E. Culp graduated from Siena Heights University with her bachelor's degree in music education. On campus, she kept active as a member of Phi Sigma Sigma.
Mara then completed her master's degree and eventually her Ph.D. in music education at Penn State University. She is now an Assistant Professor of Music Education at the Eastman School of Music. She teaches elementary general music methods, middle school choral methods, and other coursework for undergraduate and graduate students. She also advises the Collegiate National Association for Music Education (C-NAfME) chapter and serves on the Diversity Committee for the Eastman School of Music.
My motivation
I am motivated by helping people become more comfortable, competent, and confident in their musical abilities and themselves.
My latest accomplishments
My latest accomplishment is completing Level 1 in Orff-Schulwerk, an approach that combines elements of movement, music, drama, and speech.
Next big goal
My next big goal is beginning a new research project with preservice music teachers.
