Independent Student of the Day

Arthur Gwoszdz, now 22 years old, was born and raised in Balneário Camboriú, in the south of Brazil. It became his dream to study in the United States during his junior year of high school. After some diligent research on American universities, Arthur found out that he could get a scholarship to play volleyball.

He came to Siena Heights University in 2014 and fell in love with everything about it. He was a student-athlete for 2 years on the Siena Heights Men's Volleyball team, and has been been a part of the Residence Life staff for the past 3 years. He also has been involved with several clubs and departments on campus, such as Admissions, Marketing, and Diversity and Inclusion. Also, he is the current Student Government President, which Arthur describes as "an amazing opportunity to grow as a professional and as a person".

Additionally, Arthur took his education beyond the classroom as a Web Center Intern at Adrian Dominican Sisters.

My motivation

I like to set personal goals, which motivates me to keep developing my strengths and to become a better person.

My latest accomplishments

I was recently chosen as a Hispanic/Latino Future Leaders Scholarship recipient. It was an honor to represent my community at a state level event.

Next big goal

The goal is to make the best out of my last year at Siena while aiming for an opportunity to stay in the United States after graduation.

Why is choosing your own path important?

Moving to another country made me realize how important it is to be true to my values and goals. Being away from home helped me become independent while making connections along the way.
